Bio (on back): Dubbed a modern Deborah by her contemporaries, Ida B. Wells-Barnett was a fearless anti-lynching activist, journalist, and suffragist. Emancipated just six months after her birth in Mississippi, Wells-Barnett was the oldest of eight children. A prolific writer, speaker and organizer, she opened the world’s eyes to the evils of U.S. lynchings with her groundbreaking work, Southern Horrors: Lynch Laws in All Its Phases. Quick to note that her deeds were achieved “under God,” Wells-Barnett had resolved early on to “work for the Master.” A possible motivation for her tireless anti-lynching crusade was her belief that “there must always be a remedy for wrong and injustice if we only know how to find it.”
